IMPHAL, Feb 11: Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal West II, rejected a bail application filed by one Md Sahid Khan in connection with the alleged rape and brutal murder of a 19 year old girl at Irong Chesaba Salam Achouba Thumukom on January 28, and instead remanded him to judicial custody till February 25.
Md Sahid Khan (24) s/o Ithem of Yairipok Changamdabi, alleged boyfriend of the victim, was produced before the Court following the completion of seven days additional police custody remand, by the IO of the case today, along with a prayer for judicial custody remand for further investigation.
On the other hand, the defense counsel of Md Sahid Khan, filed a remand objection, along with a bail application.
During the proceeding, the IO explained that Md Sahid Khan was arrested on the afternoon of January 28, soon after the dead body of the victim was found and he was initially labelled as the prime suspect as he has been in a relationship with the victim for a long time and the victim had gone out to meet him in the night of January 27 as well as per the statement given by the victim's cousin.
The IO submitted that during police interrogation, Md Sahid Khan had initially admitted to committing the crime but he later blatantly denied any involvement.
He however admitted that he was in relationship with the victim for the last two years and they were intimate several times, the IO added.
Informing that the relationship between the two began to strain during the last few months, the IO prayed for remanding the boyfriend of the victim in judicial custody for further investigation.
After hearing the IO and Md Sahid Khan's defense counsel, the Court rejected the bail application and instead remanded Sahid to judicial custody till February 25.
It may be mentioned that yesterday, one Sheikh Warish (24) s/o (L) Md Hessamuddin of Lilong Dam Makha, was remanded to judicial custody till February 24 after he allegedly confessed that he killed the victim on the night of January 27.
