Training on vetting and attribute data collection starts

A two day training on vetting and attribute data collection of base map for preparation of GIS-based Master Plan for Imphal under AMRUT began at the conference hall of Dani Continental, Imphal today.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner (MAHUD/IPR) M Joy said that to develop common digital geo-referenced base maps and land use maps using GIS is necessary while preparing a Master Plan.
Correct survey reports and outcome of the collected data with accuracy is important for formulation of the Master Plan.
He appealed to the participants to collect data carefully so that the Master Plan will be accurate and fruitful.
Chief Town Planner of Town Planning Department, Manipur Y Narmada stated that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, GoI launched a sub-scheme on formulation of GIS (Geographic Information System) based Master Plans under AMRUT Mission for 500 cities across India.
Narmada further said Imphal and its surroundings (Greater Imphal) is one of the city identified under the sub-scheme.
The State Government has completed demarcation on the greater Imphal mapping area and acquired satellite data.
Area covered under the sub-scheme is 199 sq km and the sub-scheme is 100% funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, GoI.
She further said that formulation of Master Plan for greater Imphal on the GIS base map will be as per the provisions of the Manipur Town & Country Planning Act, 1975. The Master Plan will be for the horizon year 2020 to 2041 and will include analysis, recommendations including identification of issues and potentials, projected requirements, policy formulation and proposals on population, housing, transportation and community facilities.
The plan proposals will be based on public input, surveys, planning activities, existing development, physical characteristics and socio-economic conditions.
The training was imparted by Mohd Monis Khan, Town & Country Planner, Head of Urban & Regional Information System, Town & Country Planning Organisation, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, GoI.
Students from School of Planning & Architecture, Bhopal and Manipur Technical University attended the training. As part of the training, the trainees will go for field work for ground truthing and attribute data collections.
The training programme was jointly organised by Town Planning Department, Manipur and Town and Country Planning, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, GoI.
