Joydev Thongam: Story behind the muscles

    23-Feb-2020
If life was to narrate a story about sprouting through an unwelcoming earth, this very episode will water the believers and the other halves too. If worst was the lowest, you probably haven’t seen the depth of the beyond. The carelessly coined past, suppurated separation sprouting all over the back, in the midst of the hurtful cocoon, he came to this fiasco.
Joydev Thongam, brother of a Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis fighter, youngest son of a widow, life was all set for burning his dreams. Sheeted and ironed hopes, boxed and kicked believes, yet faith backboned him to meet maturity before it’s ripened. Truth be told, charactering as a widow in a narrowly windowed cosmos was yet another salting over the wound. Even though his mother tries to curtain those but Joydev’s maturity X-rayed the pain, never did he failed even once to feel his mother’s whispers for help. That was the hook that caught him and roped him towards the heavenly sports; Body Building.
Protecting his mother was not just his blood-duty but he moulded that to passion which now have evolved to his profession. He now is in his second year of his graduation, DAV college sector 10 Chandigarh.
Mess after mess, time lead him to a point where people keep saying, “studies and body-building” will never be a word in the dictionary of co-existence.
One of the very moving iota I threw was, “What kept you going in life?” The answer he gave will inspire you for lifetime, “People who keep saying I can’t, I have always been surrounded by friends and relatives who keeps saying I can’t. Whenever I hear people saying those, it triggers my wants to push my limits. Once I thought I am what people think but I have realized that, I am what I think.” Truth after truth, he is building not just muscles but dreams and hopes. “How do you see fear in life?” I thought I twisted him. “I welcome them, I see fear as an opportunity, it’s a test. Funny but things I fear are the ones I want to face the most for I do not just see the growth but feel the growth as well. One of the greatest fears was fear of failing, once I accepted that failing is a synonym of learning, I started enjoying failing. I never get enough of failing for every-time I fail I learn something new.”
Laishangbam Jamini Devi, the mother who raised this winner. I still remember the strong words this iron lady said once, “Never be afraid to stand up for your family, never let anyone be the driver of your dreams, never let your neighbours disrespect you and never feel weak even when you have to stand alone.” These simple words, these lines curved made a huge impact to me as well.
Stood second in Jr. Imphal East 2019, and participated Jr. Mr. India 75plus as well, he is on his hunt for more. “Why family is so important to you?” my hunger threw this. “If not for my family, if not by my family, I won’t have reached where I am. Coming to your question, family is more like a trampoline, it never makes your falling energy go wasted, it only catches you safely just to push you up even higher. I have had so many falling moments and when you have a family, you know they will catch you – no matter how badly you will fall.” True, family is always the best backbone in life.
“What will be that one thing you want everyone to learn from you?” thought it was tricky but he untwisted. “I don’t want anyone to learn anything from me, what they have to know and learn is all in their heart. They need to listen to their heart, feel what their heart speaks, never stop believing you can make things happen. Advices are cheap but only the golden ones from your heart will make the moves. I hope I answered you.” Well! More than I wanted.
To all those reading this article, you have a thing in you, listen to that voice, make it louder for that’s not a noise but your music for life.
