Workshop on biocontrol of crop pests invasive organised

IMPHAL, Feb 25: Directorate of Extension Education, Central Agricultural University, Imphal and ICAR National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources (NBAIR) Bengaluru, kick-started a two days workshop on 'Biocontrol of crop pests invasive, and utilisation of insects as food in North East region of India' at College of Agriculture, CAU, Iroisemba today.
GM, NABARD Ro Imphal Dr Satyasai Kovvali, Director NBAIR Bengaluru Dr Chandish R Ballal, Dean COA CAU Imphal Professor Indira Sarangthem, Joint Director ICAR Manipur Centre Dr N Prakash, Registrar CAU Imphal Professor K Mamocha Singh and Director (EE) CAU Imphal Professor RK Saha attended the event as the chief guest, guests of honour and president respectively.
Dr Satyasai Kovvali said that using chemicals have detrimental effects on the ecosystem while using pesticides will ultimately result in health hazards for the people.
Using chemicals and pesticides does increase production but it is also imperative to understand their negative impacts, he added.
