IMPHAL, Feb 29 : Sagolband United (SU) defeated Muvanlai Athletics (MA), Kangpokpi 1-0 today to break the winning streak of the latter team in the 13th Manipur State League being held at Artificial Turf Ground, Khuman Lampak under the aegis of All Manipur Football Association.
SU earned their third win at the tournament with the help of Wungramchan goal in the 66th minute after the two sides played out a barren first half. Experienced Wungramchan PS made it look so effortless as he took the ball deep from the midfield and made a fine calculation of MA keeper's position to send the ball lofted 5 yards away from penalty circle leaving the MA keeper helpless.
The latter portion of the game saw MA, which have sealed four of four wins earlier, working hard to close out the gap but SU defence held firm to thwart their rivals' on goal attempts and deny any chance in the scoreline till home.
MA could have taken the pole position had they clinched full points today.
Earlier in the 40th match of the tournament GSC, Churachandpur scored twice in the second half to earn a 2-1 comeback against YPHU, Lalambung.
YPHU had a good start to the game dominating the possession with crisp passing and better understanding and took a slender 1-0 lead till the break  thanks to N Olen's strike in the 15th minute.
The team however lost their tempo in the second half and  capitalising on a defensive lapse Manglenboi N equalised it for GSC in the 53rd minute before Michael Tunlalpao sealed the win in the 61st minute. The Lalambung toiled hard to claw back into the game latter on but GSC stepped up their defence to hold their fort strong till the final whistle.
SSU, Singjamei will play NEROCA FC, Sangakpham in the next match on Sunday at 11.45 pm before AFC, Thoubal take on UKB, Churachandpur latter at 2 pm.
