IMPHAL, Mar 20: A team of Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) today, distributed essential items and foods to the families affected by the violence at Chassad village.
Members of the association, which is formed by AMUCO, CCSK, HERICOUN, LIPUL, MMWO and UCM, and womenfolk visited Chassad village and personally met the people affected by the incident.
The association initiated the trip today in a bid to ensure that peace and tranquillity is maintained among the various communities who are residing together in Manipur.
On the other hand, Kuki Chief Council also extended aid to the affected people of Chassad village today.
Speaking to media persons, the council's president Tongpu Kipgen claimed that ever since the Anglo-Kuki war, Chassad has been regarded as the eastern defense gate of Manipur.
Such an incident cannot destroy the historic significance of the area, he said, alleging that much of the destruction was a result of late/slow response by the authorities concerned.
He then demanded the State Government to make good on its assurance made to the people of Chassad, apart from deploying VDF personnel at Chassad as well.
