IMPHAL, Mar 26: Amidst the 21 day lockdown due to novel coronavirus, the United Committee Manipur (UCM) has underlined the need for opening fair price shops.
Urging all agencies, agents, shops, contractors concerned not to take advantage of the lockdown and hike prices of the essential commodities, UCM in a statement said that the State Government should set up fair price shops at appropriate locations to provide the items to the public at ease during the lockdown.
Seeking cooperation from all the people in combating the virus, it appealed public to understand the gravity of the situation and avoid going out of their homes.
It further urged the State Government to provide all the essential services and items at the quarantine centres.
Terming the recent incident where the helpline number couldn’t be reached as unfortunate, UCM urged all authorities concerned to take the matter seriously and remain vigilant to prevent such incidents from repeating.
Maintaining that it will extend help whenever necessary, UCM emphasised that there should be strong cooperation among all and effective measures in place to deal with the pandemic.
It also appealed to all not to spread false or incomplete news on social media and urged the Government to look into such matters as well.
