Greater painted-snipe released

Thoubal, Mar 6 : A rescued greater painted-snipe was released at Ikop Pat today.
The greater painted-snipe is a medium size bird that inhabits marshes in Africa, South Asia and South-east Asia. The bird is listed as least concern by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature).
The bird, handed over to Joint Co-ordination Committee on Wildlife & Biodiversity, was released by former BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president Thokchom Jadumani at the Ikop Pat.
Unique Wildlife Protection Committee , Manipur, secretary  general, Irengbam Sanaton,  Wildlife & Biodiversity Conservation Committee, WBCC Manipur secretary Romesh Ningthoujam and many wildlife lovers were present.
Releasing the bird, Th Jadumani urged people to avoid hunting birds and work towards conserving the nature, its varied floras and faunas.
