International Women's Day emphasizes on struggles & roles of women

IMPHAL, Mar 8 : International Women’s Day cum Kishori Mela under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative was observed at Imphal East district with the theme, “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights” today.
The function was organised by district administration, Imphal East where Poshan Pakhwada 2020 under Poshan Abhiyan was also launched.
Poshan Pakhwada will end on March 22.
With a view to encourage and create awareness on girl child, a BBBP run was taken out.
Fun activities/games/competitions were also carried out in which AWWs, ASHAs, SHGs, School children, NYK volunteers among others participated.
Stalls were put up by all line departments like CMO, ICDS, ICPS, SW, SBI bank, MRB, etc to provide awareness on the services and on the spot registration under certain schemes was also done.
RK Taruni, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, Imphal West, P Bimola, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, Imphal East and Dr Rangitabali Waikhom, DC Imphal East attended the formal function.
Poshan Pakhwada was launched to increase male participation in the campaign to improve nutritional outcomes and to emphasize on door-to-door campaign.
A special message was also given by the DC on National Hearing Awareness Campaign, Guddi Gudda boards (under BBBP) to all AWCs of Imphal East to monitor the sex ratio of the AWC at monthly basis.
The dignitaries talked about the important roles women hold in every field and the need to encourage women's representation more.
Prizes were distributed to winners of all the activities/competitions.
On the other hand, RIMS Director Professor A Santa launched the observation of International Women's Day 2020 at RIMS today under theme , 'I am generation equality- Realising women's rights'.
A seminar was also conducted in which Dean (Academics) Professor Brojen Akoijam, College of Nursing RIMS Principal Prof H Jamuna and Dental College, RIMS Principal i/c Prof Deepak attended.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Women's Voluntary organisation (AMAWOVA) organised International Women's Day with "Let us carry the struggle forward" as the theme, at GM hall. A booklet was also released during the event.
Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson Sumatibala  Ningthoujam, AMAWOVA president Y Kunjarani, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president L Memchoubi, Kabui Mothers' Association president Atompi Kamei and Kuki Women Union advisor Rose Mangshi Haokip attended the function as dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Y Kunjarani said that the organisation has been observing International Women's Day since 1995.
The theme is appropriate as women of Manipur have been fighting many social issues and they have been playing a major role in the freedom struggle.
The association's president stressed on the need to address more issues which are targeting women and also underscored the need to shed light on the rapid rise in crimes against women and children.
In a separate event, Thoubal Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organised an awareness programme in connection with International Women’s Day at Salampatong village in Kangpokpi district today.
Chandrakhong COB organised the programme for women of Salampatong village in which students, and Meira Paibis attended, said PRO, IGAR.
 The programme highlighted the importance of women in today’s world and gender equality in the society, which was followed by a discussion on success achieved by women in various fields and their immense contribution to the society.
The attendees were also briefed on various Government welfare schemes available to them.
All Manipur Nupi Marup observed International Women's Day at Irawat Bhawan today.
Former president of All Manipur Nupi Marup S Sorojini, secretary of Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup Laishram Mema, president of All Manipur Nupi Marup M Sakhi and president of Working Women Forum Bedamani attended the event as the presidium members.
DESAM also organised International Women's Day at its head office at Kwakeithel today.
IMC Ward No 12 Corporator Potshangbam Premila, DESAM president Nameirakpam Edison Meitei, WASDEV president RK Tharaksana were present as the dais members.
Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL) also observed International Women’s Day under the theme “I am generation equality, realizing women’s right” at Manipur Press Club today.
President of KIL, RK Sanahanbi, president of Kangleima Y Leirik Leima, vice-president of UCM cum president of IPAK Ksh Somorendro and president in-charge of ACOAM-Lup, Kangleipak Soraisam Sanjit attended the observation as presidium members.
Meanwhile, Bharat Vikas Parishad, Manipur Prant observed the day at NEXA showroom, Chingmeirong today with M Binota, Chairperson, Manipur Commission for Women as chief guest, Dr Hemam Priyosakhi, Head of Department (ENT) and president, BVP, Manipur Prant as president and Dr Sinam Rajendra, National vice president, BVP as guest of honour respectively.
Two prominent ladies who contributed immensely in health care sector in Manipur namely, Dr S Bhagyabati Devi, Professor of Medicine Department RIMS and Maibam Ranita, Community Health Officer, were honoured during the occasion.
The observance was attended by several members of BVP, Mahila Sakha, BVP, Linthoingambi and BVP, Imphal.
