Najma, others greet

IMPHAL, Apr 12: Governor Najma Heptullah has extended heartiest greetings to the people of the State on the occasion of Cheiraoba.
Saying that for the Hindu Meiteis, Cheiraoba symbolizes coming of a new year and is celebrated by every household with great enthusiasm and gaiety, the Governor said this festival also represents change of guards where old give way to new and rekindles hope for a better life.
The Governor also prayed for peace, prosperity and progress and also wished that the coming new year may dispel the dark and bring in light to the State for a better future.
Lok Sabha MP Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh also extended his greetings to fellow citizens  of Manipuri Community.
The MP said that Cheiraoba is a part of the glorious tradition of sharing one’s happiness and fortune with others.
He hoped that the festival will strengthen bonds of amity and fraternity amongst different communities of the State and convince people to fight COVID-19 with full determination.
The MP also prayed for those fighting on the frontline to give them strength and physical immunity with the advent of New Year and to strive for unity and peaceful co-existence while also reminding to observe social distancing and other precautions while celebrating the festival.
Speaker Y Khemchand Singh has also extended his warm wishes to the people of Manipur specially Hindu Meiteis on the occasion of Cheiraoba, also celebrated by mainland Hindus as Vaisakhi. The Speaker wished the people of Manipur a prosperous and bountiful year ahead with peace and joy.
