Manipur nurse returns to hero's welcome
NEW DELHI, Apr 20
A 24-year-old nurse from Manipur, who contracted COVID-19 in the line of duty at a private hospital in Delhi, was discharged after she tested negative on Sunday.
Taking to Twitter to share a heartwarming video of the nurse being welcomed by her neighbours in Delhi, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, “The whole Nation, including me, is incredibly proud of you being a Manipuri and wish to congratulate. Taking such risks to save others’ lives shows you have kept your duty above yourself.”
In the video, which has now gone viral on social media, the woman’s neighbours in Delhi’s Kishangarh near Vasant Kunj are seen cheering for the just-recovered girl coronavirus patient as she enters her rented accommodation.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the people for showing their encouragement and support to the young nurse. “Thanks to people of Delhi for your encouragement and support to my child,” he added in his tweet.
The woman from Manipur’s Thoubal district who is currently working as a nurse at a private hospital in Saket in the National capital, had tested positive for the deadly virus in the line of duty. She was undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
Nine of the family members living along with the woman in the same building were kept under home quarantine as precautionary measure for further spread of the virus.
