Khongjom Day observed

IMPHAL, Apr 23: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) observed Khongjom Day at Congress Bhawan, here, today.
During the observance, the party members maintain a safe distance in paying floral tributes to the portrait of Paona Brajabashi and other fallen heroes of the historic Battle of Khongjom 1891.
At the event, MPCC president, M Okendro said that the observance was held by following all safety guidelines advised by the State Government and departments concerned to avoid COVID-19 transmission.
It would have been better if the State Government had relaxed the lockdown for a few hours, similar to that of relaxation in view of Esther Sunday and Cheiroaba on April 11, to pay rich tributes to the brave sons of Manipur who made supreme sacrifice for the cause of the motherland, he said, adding that State-level observing of such important day just in name at Khongjom is very unfortunate.
The observance was also attended by CWC member, Gaikhangam, former Minister, Ratankumarmm, MLAs and office-bearers of MPCC.
All Manipur Students' Union observed 129th Khongjom Day in a low key celebration at its Headquarters, today due to the ongoing lockdown over COVID-19 pandemic.
At the observance, several volunteers of the student association offered floral tributes to the fallen heroes who fought against the mighty British in the Battle of Khongjom 1891, said a statement issued by AMSU.
TRIPURA: Commemorating the Battle of Khogjom 1891,  Khongjom Day was also celebrated in two different places of Tripura in compliance with the social distancing norm.
At the main function organised by Manipur Literary and Cultural Forum Tripura at Gouranagor, forum president Ningombam Bir Singh led in offering floral tributes to the photo of Paona Brajabasi.
Abhoynagar Puthiba Welfare & Cultural Society also observed the day by paying floral to the statue of Paona Brajabasi at Abhoynagar.
Cachar: The 129th Khongjom Day was observed at Udharbond Pangram, Cachar, Assam today by paying floral tributes at the statue of Paona Barajabashi.“Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) also observed the day.
