Shillong, Apr 25: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Saturday said that the State government is trying to ramp-up the number of COVID-19 tests it is doing in a day.
Tynsong told reporters here that as of date, the State is testing 140 samples a day with the help of Assam.
The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) is currently able to test only 90 samples daily, but with Assam offering to test 50 samples a day we can test 140 samples as of now,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
However, he said that the NEIGRIHMS by next week will be getting extra machine for testing another 70 samples per day.
“The state will then be able to test 160 samples a day and with the help of Assam we can test more than 200 samples per day,” Tynsong said.
He also informed that another testing center will come up at Tura but it will take time with installation of machines.
The Deputy Chief Minister also said that another testing centre may come up at Nazareth Hospital but there is some delay due to some extra paper work since it is a private institute.
“Most like we will get another testing centre at Pasteur Institute, Lawmali,” Tynsong said.
