IMPHAL, Apr 27: The Communist Party of India, Manipur has urged people of the State to continue observing all precautionary measures even though Manipur has been declared a COVID-19 free zone.
Citing the example of US where a large number of people tested positive for the virus although they did not exhibit any symptoms, a press release issued by CPI stated people should not let their guards down as there could be asymptomatic cases and thus follow all precautionary measures.
The party has also expressed disfavour to arrangements made by the State Government to bring back stranded Manipuris via special flights saying that the move puts the State at risks of the virus again. Moreover, many of them are from major COVID-19 infected States like Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai etc.
Additonally, there have been reports of  illegal entry by foreigners through the  porous sections of Indo-Myanmar border, CPI said. It then urged the State Government to mount strict vigil against any possible transmission of COVID-19 from outside the State.
Stating that all precautionary measures issued by health experts must be observed to curb the spread of coronavirus, the party appealed to everyone to use hand-sanitizers and face masks while stepping out.
Agents handling relief items should perform their duties sincerely during this time of hardship and not for personal gain, it added.
