IMPHAL, Apr 3: The Manipur Human Rights Commission has recom-mended conversion of all closed down Government sponsored rehabilitation centres into isolated/quarantine centres for drug users picked up by police or identification of schools/colleges as detoxification camps amidst the lockdown to prevent spread of COVID-19.
The recommendations came following a petition filed by Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE) which is a member of CROC-19, regarding concerns for wellbeing and safety of drug users in the State amidst the coronavirus pandemic, said a statement of CoNE today.
The hearing of the complaint filed by CoNE was done via skype and the MHRC adopted several recommendations to be forwar- ded to the Government, it said.
The MHRC recommended that no new admission should be made in privately run rehabilitation centres. No inmates shall be discharged from the centres amidst the health crisis.  Essential commodities should be made available to the rehabiliation centres at subsidised rates, recommended the MHRC.
