1st COVID-19 patient tests negative, likely to be discharged

IMPHAL, Apr 6: For the second time, the State’s first COVID-19 patient from Thangmeiband Lourung-purel Leikai tested negative today and she has recovered clinically.
Talking with The Sangai Express, JNIMS Director Th Bhimo said that the young woman from Thangmeiband was treated as per the guidelines laid down by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The Director said that they have even discussed about discharging the patient who has now recovered clinically.
COVID-19 management core committee of JNIMS held a meeting this morning and discussed about discharging the woman.
The meeting also discussed about the course of action that would be adop-ted for mental and physical recovery of the State's first COVID-19 patient.
A final decision on discharging the woman would be adopted at a joint meeting of JNIMS COVID-19 management core committee and the State Quarantine Committee tomorrow morning.
What JNIMS Hospital would do after the woman  is sent back home would be laid down before the State Quarantine Committee, Dr Bhimo said.
After the woman is discharged, doctors and nurses would visit her at home everyday and her health condition would be monitored for 14 days, said the Director.
On being enquired about the recovery of the State’s first COVID-19 patient, Dr Bhimo said that the young woman was treated as per the guidelines laid down by ICMR but medicines generally prescribed for HIV infected people were not prescribed for the woman.
After she was tested negative for COVID-19 on Saturday, the woman was shifted to general ward.
Meanwhile 12 family members of the woman who are currently housed in a quarantine centre have been advised to go home after the Health Department took a decision to this effect yesterday.
Meanwhile, the State Government has further intensified the ongoing lockdown.
Chief Minister N Biren personally went to oil pumps were fuels were distributed today and asked people to comply with social distancing norms.
