CAU's paddy seed

IMPHAL, May 2: In an effort to support and provide relief to farmers during COVID-19 outbreak, CAU Imphal is making available its premium quality CAU R1 (Tamphaphou) paddy seed on sale from May 4 at the College of Agriculture, Iroishemba, said a statement of the varsity.
The initiative, under the aegis of CAU, Vice Chancellor, Professor M Premjit Singh, is to help farmers for early sowing of paddy in their fields.
The variety is a medium duration one (125-130 days), which produces higher yield of 5.5 to 6 tonnes per hectare. The variety is suitable for rain-fed, subtropical wetland paddy fields of North-Eastern States.
CAU R1 variety has also won many awards in crop competitions across the North-Eastern States including the crop cutting competition organised by Department of Agriculture, Manipur, said the statement.
