Thoubal based industry manufactures power loom that can weave intricately designed clothes

IMPHAL, May 20: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the State, proprietor of Boboy Powerloom Industry Pvt. Ltd, Sagolsem Boboy has manufactured an automatic power loom christened as Sagolsem Lamnganbi Chanu Powerloom that can weave 12-15 clothes with intricate designs a day.
Born to S Kamdev and S (o) Ngambi of Charangpat Mayai Leikai under Thoubal district, S Boboy (33) has two siblings.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, S Boboy stated that he started assembling power loom three years ago to further broaden and intensify the development of the handloom industry in the State.
Saying that raw materials available in the State are used in developing the body of the machines and some integral parts are imported from Gujarat, Boboy added that he had sold about 200 power looms so far.
Two people from Assam have also bought power loom from Boboy Powerloom Industry Pvt. Ltd, he said adding that he makes a profit of about Rs 10,000 from selling one power loom  (cost price Rs 50,000; Selling price, Rs 60,000 approx).
Boboy lamented that the power loom can weave at least 12-15 pieces of cloth in a day.
Continuing that he along with two of his family members received training on this field (making power loom) from a company based in  Gujarat, Boboy added that the power loom he manufactured has the facility to print over 700 detailed design on clothes.
If a thread breaks while weaving, the machine will shut itself and can restart only when the problem is fixed, Boboy added.
Maintaining that he had applied for a loan under a Government scheme to enhance the business and also to help improve the socioeconomic status of the State, he asserted that he has not been short-listed for the loan so far, though bank officials had inspected his work.
Boboy also said that he is considering to open a weaving centre to provide job opportunity for the unwaged youth.
