Mizoram faces shortage of quarantine centres

AIZAWL, May 26: Even though over 150 churches have been used as quarantine centres in addition to various other quarantine centres, Mizoram is still facing shortage of quarantine centres as more and more stranded people are returning to the State.
So far, 108 churches have been offered by Presbyterian Church to be used as quarantine centres. In addition to these churches, 32 local churches from BCM, 16 from SA, 7 from LIBK, 2 each from ECM, United Pentecostal Church (NEI) and United Pentecostal Church (Mizoram) have also been offered to be used as quarantine centres.
It has been witnessed that the Mizoram government and the church organizations have already set up over 500 quarantine centres in the State.
Mizoram needs quarantine centres for over 20,000 returnees. Earlier, the State was preparing for 15,000 people. However, as it appears today, the total number of returnees will be much higher than it was assumed earlier.
It can be mentioned here that over 600 people from Mizoram  are stranded in foreign countries due to COVID-19 lockdown. In this regard the Mizoram government is working out to bring them back to the state as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the State government of Mizoram is all prepared for the resumption of air services in the State.
The first flight in Mizoram since the lockdown will land on Thursday. An Air India aircraft will land at Lengpui airport on Thursday from Kolkata via Imphal. Airbus 319 of the Air India will operate three days a week. The days of operation are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Sources said that besides Air India, other services are also likely to operate in the near future. However, till date GoAir and Indigo, which were operating before the lockdown, are yet to announce their decision of resumption of operation in Aizawl sector.
