IMPHAL, Jun 10 : The Arambam Somorendra Trust and Social Standard Club, Salanthong jointly observed the 20th death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra at Khurai Salanthong, today.
At the anniversary, the gatherings paid floral tributes to the statue of late Arambam Samarendra by following the social distancing protocol. All the participants also wear masks.
On the other hand, Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur (PWFM) paid its respect to the late Arambam Somorendra Trust on his death anniversary.
He was shot dead on June 10, 2020, by unknown miscreants while speaking at a discussion programme held at Khurai Salanthong, recalled PWFM in a statement, today.
Saying that PWFM also observed the 20th death anniversary of the noted writer at Nungshikol Park today, it added that member of the forum led by its vice president Sobita Mongjam paid floral tributes to the statue of Arambam Samarendra erected there and also observed 2-minute silence.
Secretary of PWFM, Rakesh Naorem said that Arambam Samarendra had dedicated his whole life to promote the unique art and culture of Manipur in his works.
He had also written the first script of Manipur film which was released on April 9, 1972, he said adding that remembering a personality like him on his martyrdom day is indeed appropriate.
Founder secretary of PWFM, OC MEIRA, finance secretary NS Singh, executive members MK Ellawar, Ch Ranbir and Laimujam Pratap Singh also attended the programme.
CSOs in Jiribam such as JDO, JIMPAL, CADA and AMSU also observed the death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra at the conference hall of JDO, today.
Paying floral tributes to the writer by following COVID-19 guidelines was the main event of the observance.
