Opium seized, one arrested

KAKCHING/CCPur, Jun 29: A team of Kakching district police commando under the supervision of Victoria Yengkhom, SP Kakching while conducting frisking and checking at Sugnu Bazar on June 28 seized 6.772 kgs of suspected opium (Kani) from one Jamkhomang Haokip (23), s/o Ngamkholun Haokip of Monglenphai village, Churanchandpur.
Kakching Addl SP (Ops) Ksh Manihar stated that while the checking operation was going on, a person riding a black Ando bike in a suspicious manner drove past the check point without stopping.
The police team after a chase down stopped the suspect near Napat bridge and found 8 plastic packets of opium (Kani) in his possession. The person was arrested and the item seized by the police. On inquiry, it was found that the person was trying to transport the drug from Chandel to Churachandpur district. Further investigation is being initiated on the matter, he added.
