IMPHAL, Jul 9: The Directorate of Social Welfare has notified that a draft "Manipur State Policy on Substance Use, 2019" has been published in the official Gazette No 98 dated July 8, 2020 for information of all persons likely to be affected by the proposed policy.
According to a statement, the said policy has been drafted by a Drafting Committee constituted by the Social Welfare Department consisting of different stakeholders viz civil organizations, student organizations, law enforcement agencies, NGOs and line departments with due deliberation and discussion.
The draft policy will be available on the State Government website (http://manipur.gov.in) and Department's official website (http://socialwelfaremanipur.nic.in) besides the official Gazette published by the State Department of Printing & Stationery.
The Directorate has requested to go through the draft policy and furnish suggestions and objections, if any, to the Principal Secretary (Social Welfare) on or before August 8, 2020.
The policy envisages making the State free from substance use disorders by adopting a multi-pronged strategy that includes Drug Demand Reduction, Drug Supply Reduction and Harm Reduction.
The implementation will also require a multi-sectoral approach in which various stakeholders and line departments such as Health, Education, Agriculture, Forest, Horticulture and Law Enforcement Agencies will jointly combat the drug menace in the State, it added.
