AMCWU organises protest meeting

All Manipur Construction Workers' Union (AMCWU) organised a protest meeting at different venues in Imphal East, Imphal West and Jiribam districts as a part of the Nationwide protest called by Construction Workers Federation of India on July 14.
The main function of the meeting where many demands relating to situations created by COVID-19 crisis and others were raised, was held in Imphal West over Khwai Bridge.
Safety measures and guidelines were strictly followed, said a statement issued by the National secretary, Construction Workers Federation of India.
National Secretary of the federation, Ksh Santa, during the protest meeting demanded the Government not to converge the Building and Other Construction Workers Act-1996 and Migrant Workers' Act-1979 with other labour laws.
He, as a part of the protest, also demanded direct cash transfer of Rs 7,500 for 6 months, provision of monthly distribution of 10 kg rice per head for 6 months to all construction workers, labourers, farmers and peasants apart from seeking permission for extraction and mining of construction materials, it said.
Santa also urged authorities concerned to control prices of the construction materials and to make building and other construction workers beneficiaries for the above provisions.
AMCWU leaders, Yumnam Sarat, Huiningsungbam Sanayaima and others also attended the protest meeting, it said.
