The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has appealed the State Government to resolve the demand for 7th UGC Pay and Regulation, 2018 by college teachers, to ensure no disturbance in the admission process and other academic activities of college.
ATSUM in its statement said that the Federation of Government College Teachers' Association (FEGOCTA) resumed the temporarily suspended agitations and suspended online classes/lectures which are currently the only means of learning during COVID-19 pandemic. Further, the association had also threatened to boycott admissions and other academic activities in Government colleges.
Mention may be made that the Chief Minister had announced the State Cabinet's approval of 7th UGC Pay and Regulation, 2018 but it has not been implemented till date.
Since the 7th pay commission is a national policy, ATSUM believes its implementation is a necessity and will help in improvement in collegiate education in Manipur, including hill areas, said the statement.
ATSUM has therefore requested the State Government to ensure immediate resolution with the agitating college teachers, so that admission process and other academic activities are not disturbed.
