IMPHAL, Jul 31 : Lei Ingkhol Khunsem Leimarol Apunba (LIKLA) has drawn the attention of the Government to make separate arrangements for cremation and burial of COVID-19 victims as fear has gripped residents of Chingmeirong after the corpse of a COVID-19 victim was buried at Lei-Ingkhol, Chingmeirong cemetery during midnight of July 30.
LIKLA, in a statement said that the COVID-19 victim from Langol who was declared dead at RIMS on July 30, was buried at the said cemetery and PPE, masks, gloves etc. worn by the burial team were found to be discarded improperly.
Such burial and reckless disposal of safety gears may pose a serious threat, said LIKLA with concern and appealed to the Government to cremate or bury COVID-19 victims at a separate and safe place according to their respective faith rather than burying at a cemetery near residential areas.
