AR seizes

IMPHAL, Aug 18: Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) arrested four individuals and seized cigarettes and other illegally transported commercial goods worth about Rs 1.6 crore today.
Based on a specific input about movement of some illegal items in the area of Yairipok, troops established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post along the Yairipok-Hongbi Road. The team intercepted three white colour and one green colour Maruti Gypsy suspected of carrying illegal items.
On a detailed search of the vehicles, the troops found 34,500 packets of WIN cigarettes, 1,000 packets of Esse Light cigarettes, other items including eleven boxes of mosquito repellent, four boxes of tinned fish and other items.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Benjamin (52) of Khundung, Ningthar (55) of Chakma, Somi (48) of Chakma and Amzad (40) of Lilong.
The four persons along with the seized items have been handed over to Customs and Excise Department, Pallel for further legal action, said a statement of PRO IGAR (South).
