Yet another succumbs Manipur sees three figure spike with 118

IMPHAL, Aug 17: One more COVID-19 patient expired today at RIMS due to COVID-19 and other co-morbid health conditions taking the death toll to 17 while the positive cases rose by 118 during the last 24 hours.
Among those who tested positive is ace boxer L Sarita and her husband.
The latest victim is a 48 year old male from Imphal East district.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 94 civilians and 24 personnel of CAPF were tested for COVID-19 at JNIMS, Raj Medicity, DH Noney, Babina Diagnostics, DH Churachandpur, Imphal West RAT, Shija Hospital, DH Thoubal and DH Tamenglong.
The 94 civilians who have been tested positive for the contagion belong to Imphal West (72), Thoubal (6), Tamenglong (1), Imphal East (12), Churachandpur (1) and Noney (2). None of them have any history of travelling outside the State.
Meanwhile, 102 COVID-19 patients have been discharged during the last 24 hours from CAPF (7), RIMS (5), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (81), CCC Kasom (8) and CCC Senapati (1) after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 positive cases in the State has reached 4687 (general public 3471, Central security personnel 1216). This figure includes 1936 active cases (general public 975, Central security personnel 961) and 2734 discharged cases (general public 2480, Central security personnel 254).
The recovery rate is 58.33 per cent.
Dr Sasheekumar informed that helpline numbers 8787457035, 9402751364, 76299435961 are available round the clock for psychological support, 1800-103-2015 for hospitalisation and 1800-345-3818 (COVID-19 Common Control Room).
Meanwhile, eight people were found infected by the virus after rapid antigen test at Thoubal today.
Further, 36 people were found to be COVID-19 positive after rapid antigen test at different places of Imphal West district today.
Of these 36 people, 15 are personnel of 8th MR, five are residents of Awang Khunou, six residents of Uripok (near Hindu Hotel), four personnel of CRPF (Mongsangei camp), three are residents of Mayang Imphal including boxer Sarita and her husband while two others are residents of Wangoi and Ningombam.
Another CRPF personnel too tested positive at Jiribam.
On the other hand, Imphal West DC Naorem Praveen has appealed to all the people of Imphal West district to allow performance of last rites/cremation of COVID-19 victims in their respective localities.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of cremation of a 73 year old man who expired yesterday due to COVID-19 and other co-morbid health conditions, Praveen said that people need not be panicky about cremating COVID-19 victims in their respective localities as the dead bodies would be brought wrapped in plastic after being properly sanitised and as such, there is no possibility of the virus spreading from dead bodies.
