IMPHAL, Aug 22
Okshongbung Leikai Meira Paibi Lup (OLMPL) has stated that Manipur is becoming, more or less,  like a den of drug traffickers and users, which is more threatening than the 'infamous' Golden Triangle itself.
A press release signed by Ph Nimu Devi, president OLMPL, also claimed that ganja and poppy are extensively cultivated in the hilly region 'unchecked'.
She also alleged that the public is aware of the many drug manufacturing units that are opened in the valley of Manipur.
Though the consequence of these regular smuggling and production of drugs in the State are felt far and wide, the most affected is the State native, especially youth, the president of OLMPL said, further claiming that there are no places in the State where drugs or intoxicants aren't available.
Saying that people who are actually executing War on Drugs campaign should be capacitated to save the State's future, Ph Nimu said there is also a need to instil a sense of fear into every drug lord/trafficker by utilising the drugs policy of this country without any interferences from third parties.
Unfortunately, not a person involved in a major drug haul case is awarded the punishment he /she truly deserves till date, and instead law enforcers or Government's officials who arrested them are demoted or transferred, she asserted, recalling that one police officer who was arrested for trafficking drugs worth more than 3 crores in 2013 was conferred Gallantry Award recently.
Ph Nimu then questioned if all drug lords operating in the State are above laws.
OLMPL supports the War on Drugs campaign, she said and urged the State Government and department concerned to hand over major drug haul cases of the State to CBI or NIA at the earliest.
