CM inspects Nambul

Imphal, Aug 27 (DIPR) : Chief Minister N Biren Singh inspected the Nambul river stretch from Keishampat to Thong Nambonbi and planted tree saplings (Bougainvillea) along the bank of the river from Wahengbam Leikai to Keishampat Junction today.
Speaking to media persons, the Chief Minister said that the 'Rejuvenation and Conservation of Nambul River' project with an estimated cost of around Rs 95 crore is being taken up to clean the polluted stretch of the river from Iroishemba to Heirangoithong area. Under the project, sewage pipelines would be constructed on both sides of the river from Iroishemba to Mongsangei in order to prevent sewerage falling into the river directly, he added.  The Chief Minister maintained that the urban waste would be treated by using the latest technology at the Water Treatment Plant at Mongsangei.
Highlighting the importance and peculiarity of Nambul River, N Biren said that the Bougainvillea saplings were planted along the river banks (Thong Nambonbi to Keishampat) to beautify the landscape and attract tourists.
Minister for Forest and Environment Awangbow Newmai, Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly K Robindro, Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board S Rajen, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP and others were present during the programme.
