IMPHAL, Aug 2: A 20 year old girl has died from COVID-19 even as positive cases among people with no travel history have been rising rapidly in the State.
A 20 year old girl from Chandel who was staying at Konung Mamang, Pureiromba Leikai, Imphal East died at her temporary residence at around 1 pm today.
Thus the cumulative COVID-19 related deaths has reached seven in the State.
The girl was found COVID-19 positive after rapid antigen test today. She was tested for the virus after studying the contact list of the man who had died from the virus earlier at CMC Hospital, Koirengei. She was suffering from full body paralysis since a long time back, sources said.
On the other hand, the number of positive cases among people with no travel history has been surging rapidly in the State and the situation is quite akin to community transmission.
Of all the people who have been tested for COVID-19 today, 27 from Imphal West, nine from Thoubal and one each from Senapati and Kangpokpi have no travel history.
Meanwhile, the wife of  one Orthopedics doctor of RIMS has been tested positive for the virus after the doctor was earlier confirmed to be positive.
Notably, 36 doctors, nurses and other staff of RIMS have been already infected by the virus.
On the other hand, 28 personnel of 1st MR and 8th MR and their family members have been tested positive.
Moreover, 13 personnel of Hqs IG AR (South) were tested positive today. Five personnel of CISF who have been deputed as security escorts of the Chief Minister  were confirmed COVID-19 positive today.
Seven personnel of Mayang Imphal PS including a 3-month-old girl staying in the family quarter have tested COVID positive today.
It may be noted that the Officer in-Charge of the Mayang Imphal PS had tested positive recently. Yesterday, one runner of the OC and a newly recruited personnel stationed at the station were also found COVID-19 positive.
Sources said the police personnel who tested COVID-19 positive today had produced one accused of a drug related case before the Court of JMIC Imphal West II Lamphelpat on July 29.
On the other hand, the Judge, staff of the Special Court ND&PS and lawyers have tested negative for COVID-19. However, all of them are in the Court complex under 14 days quarantine.
Testing of the Judge, staff of ND&PS Court Lamphelpat was done on July 31 after one alleged drug peddler, who was found to be COVID-19 positive, was produced in the Court.
The Judge and staff who are under quarantine conducted social service in the Court complex today.
According to a press release issued by the Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar, 75 people including 14 personnel of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were tested positive for the contagion during the last 24 hours at RIMS, JNIMS and Babina Diagnostic Centre.   
They belong to Imphal West (42), Thoubal (9), Kangpokpi (5), Senapati (3), Churachandpur (1) and Chandel (1).
A woman was also tested positive at Thoubal district hospital after rapid antigen test today.
In the meantime, 38 COVID-19 patients have been discharged after recovery from RIMS (1), JNIMS (2), CCC Meitram (18), CCC Thoubal (3), CCC Kakching (4), CCC Moreh (2) and RD Wing (8).
The State’s total tally of COVID-19 positive cases has reached 2831. These include 1087 active cases and 1737 recovered cases. The recovery rate as of Sunday is 61.07 per cent.
Of the 42 people belonging to Imphal West district who were tested positive today, nine belong to Khongnang Pheidekpi, Kakwa and Singjamei.
Out of 479 samples tested today at JNIMS, 2 were found positive.
After a DI driver of City Police was tested positive for the contagion, necessary measures have been initiated to test all the staff/personnel of the police station.
