IMPHAL, Aug 3: Out of 84 people tested positive for COVID-19 during the last 24 hours, 80 have no history of travelling outside the State.
A late report said that a CRPF jawan of 87 Bn Uchathol, Jiribam tested positive for the virus today after undergoing Rapid Antigen Test.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 positive cases have been surging rapidly in Imphal West, Imphal East and Thoubal districts and these districts have become hotspots for the virus.
Taking serious note of the continuous infection of people with no travel history by COVID-19, a technical expert committee has started studying whether there is community transmission or not.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 84 samples were tested positive for the contagion at RIMS, Thoubal district hospital and Babina Diagnostic Centre during the last 24 hours.
Moreover, five personnel of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) have been confirmed to be COVID-19 positive.
Of the 84 samples tested positive today, 51 belong to Imphal West, 30 to Thoubal, one to Bishnupur and two to Ukhrul.
Except for two each from Ukhrul and Thoubal, all the other positive cases have no history of travelling outside the State.
On the other hand, 29 COVID-19 patients were discharged from CCC Meitram (21), CCC Senapati (2) and CCC Churachandpur (6) during the last 24 hours as they have recovered from the contagion.
With the positive cases surging rapidly, the recovery rate has declined to 60.47 per cent.
The total number of positive cases as on Monday is 2920 and these include 1147 positive cases ad 1766 recovered cases.
Out of 503 samples tested today at JNIMS, 46 were confirmed to be COVID-19 positive but their details could not be obtained till the time of filing this report.
With a 60 year old man undergoing treatment at the Accident and Trauma Centre (ATC) of JNIMS testing positive for the virus followed by his son, the ATC has been closed for 48 hours with immediate effect. Emergency facilities with limited services will now be available at the first floor of OPD block as a temporary measure.
Of the 51 people belonging to Imphal West district who were tested positive today, nine are personnel of 1st MR.
One police personnel was also found positive after he was tested at Little Flower School.
As two IRB personnel posted at the Police Headquarters have been tested positive today, other security personnel posted along with the duo have been prohibited from moving around and they would be tested for COVID-19 tomorrow.
In the meantime, a pregnant woman from Nachou, Bishnupur district has been taken to JNIMS after she was tested positive for the contagion at Babina Diagnostic Centre.
One individual from Thoubal Babu Bazar was also tested positive after rapid antigen test at Thoubal district hospital today.
Out of 35 people tested positive in Imphal East district today, 31 are Assam Rifles personnel posted at the Minuthong transit camp.
DGP LM Khaute said that Police Department has been working together with Health Department to control transmission of coronavirus among personnel of State forces.
Meanwhile certain parts of Sangaiyumphal Puleipokpi Makha, Heirok Part 2 Bazar, Nepra Company, Khangabok, Samaram, Wangjing SK Leirak, Tentha Khunou, Tentha Khongbal and Nachou Mayai Leikai, Bishnupur have been declared as containment areas.
Further, Khangabok Higher Secondary School has been designated as a COVID-19 sample collection centre for Thoubal district.
