IMPHAL, Sep 1: A month-long celebration of the 124th birth anniversary of Lam-yanba Irabot was kick-started at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal today.
Floral tributes were paid to the statue of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, a place which has a significant connection with the life of the late pioneer, said a statement of CPI, Manipur State Council.
The inaugural event was attended by CPI State secretary L Sotinkumar, assistant secretary Kh Surchand; secretariat member, A Lala; RK Amusana; Wangkhei local unit secretary Arunkumar; Yaiskul local unit secretary, Nogen and president of All Manipur Road Transport Motor Workers' Union, S Malem, among others.
Rich tributes were also paid to the statue of Shabi Devi, who worked closely with Hijam Irabot and played a big role during the Nupi Lan, it said.
The month-long observation programme was also opened in Thoubal district at Tentha Multiplex ground by CPI National executive member, Dr M Nara.
L Sotinkumar, during the inaugural speech at Wangkhei, urged all party members to take a vow to reinvigorate the movement led by Lamyanba Hijam Irabot to safeguard the territorial integrity of the State, the statement said.
The State unit has also lined up a number of events to be celebrated within the month-long birth anniversary observation.
The list includes the commemoration programme for Irabot's advent in Burma (now Myanmar) on September 11, 1950 at Keibi Maningching on September 11; birth anniversary observation of Bir, a close aide of Irabot on September 15 at Irabot Bhavan; "Apunbagi Shaktam Kanba Numit" observation on September 21 at Irabot Park, Lamlai Chalou; death anniversary observation of Hijam Irabot on September 26 at Irabot Bhavan and 124th birth anniversary observation and closing of the month-long observation on September 30 at Shumang Leela Shanglen, Wangkhei Palace Compound.
Sanitation drives, social service programmes and tree plantation drives will also be conducted at several local units of the party across the State as a part of the month long celebration, it added.
