CPI (M), Manipur Loumee Marup observe Manipur Kanba Numit

'Manipur Kanba Numit' was successfully observed at Irabot Memorial Park at Challou today with strict adherence to SOP guidelines issued in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic under the aegis of Irabot Celebration Committee (ICC).
The observation programme to commemorate the September 21, 1948 incident, which is also popularly known as 'Pungdongbam Incident" was kicked off by State secretary of Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council, L Sotinkumar by paying floral tributes at "Pungdongbam Ghatna Khubam" and lighting up the ceremonial torch.
The torch was brought to the Irabot Memorial Park by the members of the Party's Red Guard who also paid floral tributes before the main function commenced, CPI said in a statement.
The commemoration programme was graced by Thokchom Mangi, L Sotinkumar, A Lala and many party leaders as presidium members, it said while adding that the  renowned Shumang Kumhei playwright Chana Lukhoi helped elucidate all on the historical event.
The statement also quoted L Sotinkumar as saying that the late leader Irabot and the significance of the day (September 21, 1948) will remain an indelible part in the history of Manipur.
Had not there been any such movement, Manipur may not remain as it is now, Sotinkumar said.
Considering the immense leadership shown by Irabot, people are slowly realising the significance of the commemoration programme, he said while asserting that the party members, following his footstep, will never let any force disintegrate the State.
Party's assistant secretary, M Joykumar also called on the youth to uphold the principles of real socialism and communism, it added.
The function also saw release of a book titled "Irabotna Karamna Jananeta Oirakhi" written by Thokchom Yaiskul, it said.
The writer highlighted how the leader received the title Jananeta (people's leader), his fight against capitalism and work for the welfare of the farmers in the State, it continued.
The 72nd commemoration programme of 'Manipur Kanba Numit' or 'Pungdongbam Incident' was also organised by Manipur Loumee Marup at its office at Paona Keithel today.
During the function, farmers' procession from Lamlai to Yaiskul Police Lane to join the protest called by Hijam Irabot in denunciation of the "Purvanchal Pradesh" proposed to be formed by combining Manipur, Lushai Hills, Cachar and Tripura etc. during 1948 and police brutality on the farmers at Pungdongbam were recalled during the function.
The function was attended by functionaries of Manipur Loumee Marup in the presence of State CPI (M) secretary, Kshetrimayum Santa; secretariat member, Sarat Salam and secretary of Forward Bloc, Khomdram Gyaneshwar who also spoke on the significance of such a historically important event.
