Betel nuts worth Rs 31 lakh seized

IMPHAL, Jan 16: Troops of Assam Rifles seized 256 bags of betel nuts from a truck near Baulijang village in Chura-chandpur yesterday.
Two suspected smugglers plying the truck were also detained along with the betel nuts which were estima- ted to be worth nearly Rs 31.5 lakh, said a statement issued by PRO, Assam Rifles.
The seized contraband item along with the detainees were handed over to the District Forest Officer, Singngat for further investigation, added the statement.
