Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), a premier medical institute in Imphal, will introduce a Sports Medicine course at post-graduate (PG) level.
“Medical Council of India (MCI) has given permission to start MD in Sports Medicine,” RIMS director Santa Singh told reporters.
RIMS becomes one of the few medical institutes having Sports Medicine in PG disciplines.
This will benefit hundreds of sportspersons not only in Manipur but also in the entire North East, Santa said.
In 2019, the Doctorate of Medicine (DM) course for Nephrology was also introduced at RIMS and a new dialysis centre with a capacity of 10-bed was incorporated.
Now, the dialysis centre has started providing service.
“The new dialysis centre has been providing free service to the poor patients,” he said.
Established in 1972, the institute has produced 3,454 doctors, 1842 specialists, 61 clinical psychologists and 115 Bachelor of Dental Surgery doctors besides 193 BSc nursing nurses.
