IMPHAL, Jan 20 : MLA of Phunyar AC, K Leishiyo laid the foundation stone for constructing one Trade Centre at K Ashang Khullen Aze Khun situated along the Indo-Myanmar Border in Kamjong district on Tuesday.
This initiative to establish a trade centre in the plain portion of the village was taken up by a committee formed under K Ashang Khullen Aze Khun a few years ago.
As the project looks promising to the people residing at border areas, support is also pouring in from Myanmar side.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was participated by several village chiefs.
Repair works are underway to improve the conditions of  NH 102 (A) and the efforts being put in to connect the remote village (Kongkan Than Khul) by road under the funding of NEC.
The MLA also inaugurated one Water Supply Scheme built by the District Council Administration, Ukhrul, yesterday.
At the event, the MLA said that people residing on either side of the border areas are long ignored by both the Indian and Myanmar Governments.
This project will provide a platform for people residing in the border areas, both Indian and Myanmar Nationals to work collectively, the MLA hoped.
Expressing happiness on seeing many Myanmar Nationals attending the ceremony, he urged the gathering to support one another for the trade to prosper in the region.
He also dubbed the region as a land of opportunities.
Many developmental projects might have already been launched in this region, had it been thickly populated, the MLA said and added that the Government cannot build Community Hall, open primary health centre etc., in deserted areas.
Continuing that a well equipped hospital will also be opened in the region if the need arises, he urged the gathering to start settling in the region for the Government to initiate development projects.
