IMPHAL, Jan 22: The Alliance for Socialist Unity, Kangleipak (ASUK) has called a 12 hour total shutdown all over the State on January 26 from 6 am to 6 pm.
In a statement ASUK alleged that the Republic Day (January 26) is a day of celebration for India but it is a day of sorrow for Manipur/Kangleipak.
Admitting that the revolutionary movements of Kangleipak and WESEA have degenerated to the lowest level, the militant groups remarked that majority of the people think the growing strength of India as the major factor for the downfall of the liberation movements but they have been overlooking the failures, weaknesses, excesses and misplaced policies/strategies of the revolutionary groups.
Those who have abandoned the path of revolution in the name of peace talks are people who only see the growing strength of India and the weakness of revolutionary groups.
They cannot see the weaknesses of the adversaries nor ‘our own capabilities’, added the statement.
They cannot think or believe that the revolutionary movement can be re-built by rectifying the past mistakes and misplaced strategies, said the militant group.
In the wake of the rise of BJP in India, a notion that it is wisest to seek and win favour of the enemies is spreading far and wide in WESEA but this notion has not an iota of truth, alleged the statement.
The rise of facism/neo-fascism in a country at the cost of liberal democracy does not signify the growth of the country. Rather it testifies downfall of the country, the militant group asserted.
Although India came into being, camouflaged with the ideology of peace and non-violence, it embarked on a contradictory campaign of expansionism from the very beginning.
At the same time, India is plagued with internal ailments in the forms of casteism, caste exploitation, Brahmanism, sectarianism, regionalism, regional disparity, racism, gender discrimination, landlordism, capitalism, crony capitalism, bonded labour, inequality, favouritism, red tapism, nepotism, religious fundamentalism, obscurantism, anti-scientism, corruption, misgovernance, miscarriage of justice etc, the outfit alleged.
Corruption has taken a new form in India. Corruption and all kinds of unethical practices are now utilised by the Government as a means to cling to power for as long as possible.
Corruption, power and coercion have become effective tools for suppressing the masses, particularly the peoples of ‘occupied territories’, the militant groups continued.
Media has been chained and the Opposition has disappeared. CSOs have been totally crippled, they alleged.
Even if one cannot offer active resistance, there should be at least passive resistance.
The militant group then appealed to all the people to support the total shutdown as an unavoidable duty in the interest of future generations.
Religious activities, medical and emergency services, and media would be exempted from the purview of the total shutdown/general strike, it added.
