IMPHAL, Jan 4: The State Veterinary Department has formed a task force for facing African swine fever today.
The development came after cases of African swine fever were detected at Wakha in Imphal East and Salungpham in Thoubal district.
Sources at the Veterinary Department said that the Thoubal and Imphal East  district administrations have banned sales and movement of pigs/pork, feeds and related items from the control/contaminated areas.
Further, veterinary offices in all districts have been alerted to maintain strict vigil and report any suspected cases. In case of suspected cases or reported deaths of swines, the Veterinary Department is ready to conduct speedy tests and take up control and preventive measures, said the sources.
It may be noted that on January 2, the Thoubal district administration had declared Kangyambem, Lokchao and Salungpham Mamang Leikai areas as control areas for African swine fever.
