SENAPATI, Oct 10 : The 6th Mareiri Open Tournament held at Maopungdong Village culminated today with A Kapani, Caretaker Chairman, ADC, Senapati gracing the function as the chief guest and Joram Koveo, president, SDOAM as the guest of honour.
The tournament which started on October 7 was  participated by 72 teams from different places of Senapati District. 6-a side men's and women's volleyball events, 3-a side men's volleyball and penalty shoot out were the main events of the tournament.
Mao-pungdong Youth Club were crowned 3-a side men's volleyball champions as Venom Club finished runners up.
In women's volleyball, Makhel Youth Club won the top honour beating Willong Youth Club in the final as  Khabung Karong Youth Club earned the men's title beating Phaibung Khullen Youth Club in the final.
Ebviimei Stronghold Club (ESC) emerged penalty shoot-out champions while Youngster Club from Tadubi village managed the runners up title.
Men's volleyball champions went home Rs 70,000 richer as the 1st runners up and 2nd runners up teams settled for Rs 35,000 and Rs 20,000 cash prizes respectively along with trophies.
Women's volleyball champions were feted with Rs Rs 20,000 cash prize and a trophy while the runners up team got a cash prize of Rs 20,000.
The winners of 3-men a side volleyball tournament and penalty shoot-out were also respectively feted with Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 along with trophies.
It may be mentioned that the Mareiri Open Tournament is one of the biggest annual volleyball tournaments in Senapati district. This year's edition was organised by Mao-pungdong Youth Club.
