RTI week observed

Tamenglong, Oct 12: State Academy of Training, Manipur on Tuesday observed RTI week with the theme, "Improving Transparency and Accountability in Government through effective implementation of Rights to Information Act" at Mini Secretariat, Tamenglong District Headquarters.
The programme sponsored by the Department of Personnel and Training, Government of Manipur was chaired by Ningreingam Leisan, MCS, ADM Tamenglong.
During the event, N Brojakanta Singh, Faculty, Department of Law, Manipur University spoke on 'Rights to Information Act'.
He stated that RTI is a fundamental right and Government servants should provide the information sought by the people as per the act.
"Every Governmental department must have a Public Information Officer (PIO) and it is the responsibility of the PIO to reply to the RTI application within 30 days. On failure to reply within 30 days, the information seeker may go to the appellate authority or inform the State Information Officer", he added.
