Bombs defused

IMPHAL, Oct 15 : Bomb disposal squad of Manipur Police safely defused an IED which was detected near the 33 Assam Rifles post in Hengbung in Kangpokpi district yesterday.
The explosives fitted in a tiffin case along with a hand grenade were discovered at around 6.10 pm.
Sources said the explosives might have been planted by a group of insurgents to attack AR personnel nearby.
The 2.5kg IED was planted with a detonator and splinter materials.
The bomb disposal squad defused and dismantled the IED and was later detonated safely at 4th IRB firing range at Senapati at around 6.45 pm.
In a similar incident, Sajik Tampak Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled an attempt by insurgents to stage an IED attack in Chakpikarong in Chandel district yesterday.
During a routine patrolling, the troops of AR discovered the IED at a crossroad leading towards Border Pillar 51 & 52. The troops performed a controlled detonation of the IED on the spot.
