BISHNUPUR, Oct 23 : If one is determined to serve people, one should serve all irrespective of caste, creed and place where the recipient resides and without any conditions attached, remarked owner of The Sangai Express, Nishikant Singh Sapam.
Nishikant Singh was at Thinungei reaching out to a post Covid patient Sorokhaibam Surjitkumar Singh (47) when he made the statement.
Sorokhaibam Surjitkumar has been on oxygen support for the past three months after he contracted COVID-19 and was hospitalised.
Since Surjitkumar's family is extremely impoverished and his house is in a dilapidated condition, he has been sheltering at the office of a local club in Thinungei called Loyalakpa Youth Association (LYA) with the support of the club and the locality.
Acting on a plea received via Facebook message and as a part of his continuous philanthropic activities, Nishikant Singh Sapam who is also preparing to contest in the forthcoming State Assembly Election from Keishamthong Assembly Constituency, extended a sum of Rs 1 lakh and gave 100 kg of rice and other edibles to family members.
Speaking on the sidelines of his visit, Nishikant said that he came to assist and inspect the health of Surjitkumar as he is in a serious health condition and genuinely in need of assistance. Social or humanitarian service knows no boundaries and should encompass all irrespective of caste or creed, said Nishikant.
While praying that his financial assistance may help the family members of Surjitkumar cope with expenses they are bearing with, he also wished speedy recovery to ailing Surjitkumar.
Stating that he had extended a sum of Rs 50,000 earlier in the day to Malaysia bound Jeet-Kune do player Anushree, Nishikant also assured to extend help to all needy after sorting out the genuineness of their plea.
Meanwhile, spouse of Surjitkumar, Kamala said that the doctor examining her husband had informed her that it will take time for her husband to fully recover. The doctor has also advised for regular check-up, Kamala said while acknowledging the role of club (LYA) members and localities for their relentless support.
Saying that the financial condition of her family has been unstable for long, she also informed that their properties (homestead land) have been mortgaged.
As their house is unsound for sheltering an ailing person, Surjitkumar has been kept at the club's office, she continued and expressed utmost gratefulness to Nishikant for his assistance.
Kamala also wished Nishikant success in all his future endeavors.
LYA president, Naorem Rupachandra also thanked Nishikant for reaching out to the family of Surjitkumar and wished him success . He also expressed that LYA will always stand by Nishikant.
Before his visit to Thinungei, Nishikant has also extended assistance to international Jeet Kune-do player Anushree of Patsoi who is set to leave for Malaysia. The assistance was extended in view of  her (Anushree) family's shaky financial condition owing to back to back surgery of her father and as an encouragement for her upcoming international event.
