Many more condemn assault

THOUBAL, Oct 26: The BJP Thoubal District has strongly condemned the alleged assault on Thoubal correspondent of Naharolgi Thoudang and vice president, Thoubal District Working Journalist Union, Elangbam Rameshwor by workers of Congress party at his own home at Heirok Part-II, Bazar Maning Sati Khongnang Leikai.
The BJP Thoubal District further appealed to the Government to look into the matter and award befitting punishment to all involved in the barbaric act at the earliest.
Similarly, Manipur Hills Journalists’ Union (MHJU) also vehemently condemned the brutal assault of journalist Elangbam Rameshwor by some unidentified miscreants.
In a release, MHJU appealed to the State Government to book those involved and provide assistance to the victim who is in need of medical treatment.
 “It is disheartening to note that journalists in their line of duty are not safe and frequently harmed”, it added.
The MHJU while expressing solidarity with Elangbam Rameshwor and his family members also extended moral support to Naharolgi Thoudang newspaper.
Meanwhile, expressing dissent over the alleged assault on scribe Elangbam Rameshwor, a sit-in protest was also staged at Heirok Part-II Bazar Maning on Tuesday.
At the protest, Elangbam (o) Sanatombi, wife of Elangbam Rameshwor, vehemently condemned the barbaric act and urged the State Government to book all involved in the act and award befitting punishment at the earliest.
She further appealed to the public to provide their assistance in preventing such acts of violence in the future.
Placards with the slogans, "punish the culprits", "we want peace", "we condemn assault on scribe", etc were extensively used during the protest.
It may be mentioned that Elangbam Rameshwor is currently undergoing medical treatment at JNIMS Hospital, Imphal.
