IMPHAL, Nov 17 : Manipur kicked off their Men's U25 State A Trophy plate group campaign with a 5 wicket win over Nagaland at Nehru Stadium, Guwahati today riding on an all round performance by Bidash.
Let to bat first after Manipur won the toss, Nagaland started positively but found the going hard midway and bundled out for 195 runs in 47.2 overs with Manipur bowling attack led by Bikash Singh (3/22 in 6.2 overs), Bidash (2/20 in 7 overs which contain two maidens), Alfred Hmar (2/47 in 7 overs) and Nitesh (2/20 in 10 overs which contain three maidens) rattling their batting line up.
Akavi who was trapped lbw by Bikash Singh topscored for Nagaland with 68 runs off 66 balls while Hiketo (32 runs off 52 balls), Sanjay Shiva (25 runs off 38 balls) followed suit.
Needing 196 for the win, Manipur started cautiously but were reduced to 68 for 3 in the 20.5 overs with the dismissal of Andyroshan on 13, Nawaz on 26 and Johnson on 8.
However, Guniram who came up for the second wicket stand and Bidash who removed the openers (Shamphri on 10, Sanjay on 25) earlier in Nagaland's innings anchored well to add 42 (not out) and 76 runs respectively and helped Manipur complete the chase with 46 balls left to spare and 5 wickets left in the hand.
Bidash clobbered eight fours and four sixes on his way to his half century knock in Manipur's innings which saw Nagaland's Sunil Sharma pick up two wickets apart from Mynul Haque, Renben and Tohuka taking a wicket apiece.
Manipur will play Assam in the next match on November 18.
