Transport Department notifies

Directorate of Transport Department has notified to all concerned that there shall be compulsory enforcement of Rule 125H of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) 1989 which mandates the installation of Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) device and emergency button for all the public service vehicles registered on or after January 1, 2019 with immediate effect.
A notification has been issued by Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam, Director (Transport), Manipur  and further informed that the above rule is not applicable for two-wheelers, e-rickshaw, three-wheelers and any transport vehicles for which permit is not required under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
It also informed that for public service vehicles registered upto December 31, 2018, the deadline for retrofitting of VLT device and emergency button shall be notified separately.
The VLT device manufacturers will have to get their devices tested and certified from the testing agencies referred to in Rule 126 of the CMVR for compliance with the Rule 125H of CMVR. All such devices should be connected/configured with the monitoring centre set up by the State Government under Nirbhaya framework or any other similar back end software of the State Government for vehicle location tracking, the notification added.
