Teinem village to preserve 'Safa'

Ukhrul, Nov 27: Teinem Village Authority has declared a hillock as "Forbidden Land" for conservation of Tangkhul indigenous dog breed known as 'Safa' in Tangkhul dialect.
According to the village authority, the declaration was made to preserve pure indigenous canine breeds and to avoid cross breeding with other dogs in order to maintain the bloodline.
Oimps Safa Conservation and Research Centre (OSCRC) in collaboration with Tangkhul Safa Indigenous Canine Federation (TSICF) is carrying out the research on Tangkhul indigenous breed to ensure its continuity and sanctity.
The canine research centre "Forbidden land" is located at Teinem under  LM block, Ukhrul.
The village authority also cautioned the public that unauthorized entry of persons and pets is strictly prohibited at the Forbidden land while adding that the data collected during the research shall remain confidential until the population count of the species is wholly recorded and declared stable.
