Fishery Minister S Rajen Singh has appealed to the JAC of the Fisheries Cooperative Society, Manipur, not to stay away from this year's Fish Fair-cum-Fish Crop Competition.
Speaking to the media persons during a press briefing held at the conference hall of the Minister at Old Secretariat Imphal, Rajen said that this year's fish fair has already been announced and scheduled to be held at Mapal Kangjeibung on November 5.
In the meantime, there has been report on local dailies regarding the non-participation of some fishery societies of the State in the said fish fair because of non-payment of National Cooperative Development Society (NCDC) subsidies, he noted and clarified that beneficiaries of fishery societies under NCDC have its deal with Manipur Cooperative Society and not related with the Fishery Department.
The Minister also maintained that local Sareng (Wallago Attu) will also feature in the fish fair cum fish crop competition which is to be held on October 5, a day ahead of the one of the State's biggest festivals, Ningol Chakkouba.
The call for not participating in such an important fair cum competition by some JAC of fishery societies at this juncture is very unfortunate, he said and appealed to members of the dissenting fishery societies to cooperate with the Government and join the scheduled event.
Joint Secretary Fishery,  Neeta Arambam; Director Fishery Department, H Balkrishna Singh and cooperative officers of the Fishery Department also attended the press briefing.
