IMPHAL, Dec 11: A sit in protest was staged today at Heirangoithong Community Hall with the demand that the State Government should recommend the inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list before the implementation of Code of Conduct.
The sit-in protest was organized by Schedule Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM), Social Workers Club, Heirangoithong and Heirangoithong Women Coordination Committee.
Placards with slogans such as "No ST No Vote", "We demand ST status" and "Send recommendation to include Meitei/Meetei in ST list" were displayed by the protesters.
Speaking on the occasion, STDCM general secretary K Bhogendrajit stated that many convention, rallies and protests have been held in regard to their demand and added that even after the Central Government has directed the Manipur Government to send their recommendation for the inclusion of Meiteis in the ST list, the State Govt has not lifted a finger to this end.
He expressed discontent with the State Govt's inaction and cautioned that a meeting will be conducted on December 16 at Thangmeiband Khunthokhanbi Campus to discuss future agitations if the situation remains unchanged.
