IMPHAL, Dec 12 : Prize distribution ceremony for Nupi Shumang Leela Competition and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Weekly Quiz which were jointly organised by Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur and Regional News Unit of All India Radio as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was held today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound.
The ceremony was attended by M Harekrishna, IAS, Commissioner, Department of Higher and Technical Education; Gin Gangte, Addl Director, News Section, AIR; M Joy (IAS), Commissioner, Department of Art & Culture as chief guest, guest of honour and president of the ceremony respectively.
Addressing the gathering, M Harekrishna lauded the courage and bonafide spirit of Manipuri women on the occasion of Nupi Lan Numit today in remembrance of the first (1904) and second Nupi Lan (1939). He added that Manipur women are always at the forefront when it comes to any societal issues and stressed on the importance of educating the girl child.
 During this era of women empowerment, educating a girl is akin to building a society, he added.
