Importance of Sahitya Akademi's village outreach programme 'Gramalok' highlighted

IMPHAL, Dec 14: 'Gramalok', the Sahitya Akademi's village outreach programme was held at Mongjam community hall today.
The programme was jointly organised by Social Integrity Organizing Club (SIOC), Mongjam and Nilakuthi Gram Panchayat under the aegis of Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, social worker Konjengbam Dilip said that local clubs and writers in the State contribute immensely towards the development of the society hence their contributions should be acknowledged by all
He further appealed to the local clubs to take the initiative in organising competitions such as poetry reading competitions, song competitions and so on to provide a platform to the young kids to showcase their talents
Delivering the key note address, member of Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, Dr K Shantibala elaborated about 'Gramalok' which is a special outreach programme of Sahitya Akademi with an aim to focus on the talents of rural writers inorder to promote them.
Since it will serve as an important platform for the budding writers, she sought for support and cooperation from all towards the cause.
Speaking on the occasion, Convenor of Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, Nongmaithem Kirankumar Singh spoke about the 'Writers Scheme' started by Sahitya Akademi where the Akademi will bear the expense of publishing a book after checking the quality and content.
It is focused on promoting young writers who have not published a single book earlier, he added.
Therefore he appealed to all the young writers of the State to avail the benefits of such schemes
A poetry reading session was also held as a part of the programme.
